Cavalier House Books will be hosting New York Times bestselling author Julie Cantrell along with specialists in the area of human trafficking in a panel discussion about her new novel The Feathered Bone on Saturday, February 27 beginning at 10am at the Livingston Parish District Courthouse located at 20300 Government Boulevard in Livingston.

Review: The Feathered Bone by Julie Cantrell

Many authors set out to write ‘important’ novels about ‘big issues’ that are meant to be buoyed by the stories that are pervasive throughout the culture at the moment. These are sometimes met with success, but Julie Cantrell’s The Feathered Bone is a different breed. This is absolutely an important novel with a big issue at its core (especially for those of us along the I-12 Corridor), but it is not meant to be buoyed by stories of missing girls – this is not a novel that feeds on the news. This is a novel that serves its subjects.

Happy New Year!

The end of the year is always a good time for reflection on this year's ups and downs and preparation for what is coming next in the new year. We often start the new year with big plans, plans designed to help us become better people, whether that is through diet, exercise, or other such resolutions. It's a time of hope for the future and what joys it might bring, a time to start over and try again, that the dawn of the new year might bring new and better prospects to our lives.
