I can only describe reading Julie's novels as a comforting heartache. Her new novel, Perennials, is about the bonds of family, the bonds of love and those of pain. Perennials are flowers that return; they are flowers that continue to grow and bloom in cycles. In the Sutherlands, Julie has created a family that represents all of us.

The Feathered Bone and Human Trafficking Awareness Panel a Huge Success

Thank you some much to everyone who came out to our event on Saturday! We were overwhelmed by the amount of community support and immensely proud to be a part of a community that seeks knowledge and information in the face of a problem that many would prefer to ignore. For those of you that were unable to attend, both The Livingston Parish News and The Livingston Business Journal had journalists in attendance and will have articles detailing the panel in future publications should you be interested in learning more.

Review: The Feathered Bone by Julie Cantrell

Many authors set out to write ‘important’ novels about ‘big issues’ that are meant to be buoyed by the stories that are pervasive throughout the culture at the moment. These are sometimes met with success, but Julie Cantrell’s The Feathered Bone is a different breed. This is absolutely an important novel with a big issue at its core (especially for those of us along the I-12 Corridor), but it is not meant to be buoyed by stories of missing girls – this is not a novel that feeds on the news. This is a novel that serves its subjects.
