The CHB Read & Review Club is for educators and students who enjoy reading and would like to share the joy of reading with others through reviewing and recommending books. As a bookshop, we often receive special review copies of books in advance of their release dates so that we can review them. However, since we can only read so many books and we value the thoughts and opinions of other readers, CHB is recruiting educators and students to read and review advance reader copies (or arcs) of books that we receive, and we'll post their reviews on the Cavalier House Books website via the Read & Review Club Blog!
Sherry LaJaunie is a special education teacher at French Settlement Elementary. She enjoys children's literature and young adult books, particulary in the paranormal, dystopian, and historical fiction genres. She is a member of the Read & Review Educators Club, and she has written a review of The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh! Check out what she has to say about the book:
The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh was everything I could want in a novel. I loved it! I think this is the best love story I have ever read in any genre!
Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, marries a new girl every day, and he puts each bride to death at dawn the next day. Sixteen-year-old Shazi, hungry for revenge for the murder of her best friend, volunteers to be the next bride in a surprising move that could result in her death. But Shazi has a plan of her own, one that involves her staying alive long enough to exact her revenge.
The story is told with such wondrous detail and suspense, and I couldn’t get enough! There is love, hate, intrigue, magic, revenge, war, you name it. I fell in love with the characters and the story before I even realized it was happening! Ahdieh has a wonderful way of describing the feeling of her characters; it’s so realistic. There is always a point in a novel where I feel the story slows down or becomes too complicated, but this story had none of this. I ravenously turned every page. It was perfect in its execution of the love story and the obstacles of the characters. Whether you’re a teen or an adult, you will fall in love with this story.
Thanks to Sherry for her review!
