Announcing the 2019 Spring Okra Picks!

The onset of spring means extra hours of daylight which means more time to read! Southern independent booksellers have collected a reading list that will keep those extra hours filled: the 2019 Spring Okra Picks – a collection of the best forthcoming Southern books of the season. Every book on the list has these things in common: they are Southern in nature, they release sometime between April and June, and they have a following among Southern indie booksellers, who can’t wait to introduce them to new readers.

Congrats to making a solid year on the bestseller's lists, Rachel Hollis!

Bestselling author of Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing and founder of TheChicSite.com, Rachel Hollis, has spent a year on the top of the bestseller's list with her first book and her second book has spent four weeks at number one! These have been huge sellers here at CHB as well and we are so looking forward to what Rachel has coming up next!

Do you ever suspect that everyone else has life figured out and you don't have a clue? If so, Rachel Hollis has something to tell you: that's a lie.

Sophie Reviews: The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie

The Raven Tower is perhaps one of the greatest books I've read in years. From the perspective of an ancient god who is speaking to our main character Eolo, this book challenges mainstream narration with it's unique style and voice. I was immediately immersed in a world of gods and humans all struggling for power and control. Ann Leckie forces us to look past the norms of society and to imagine something so much greater. The Raven Tower is truly a work of art.

New Releases - 4/2/19

Another amazing week in new books! We have quite a few bestsellers out in paperback this week (get ready for summer!) and some truly great kids books! We've also had a trickle of moon landing anniversary related books released over the last few weeks, be on the look out if that is your bag (definitely mine!) as I'll be doing a round up and recommendation list soon!

Sophie Reviews: Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James

Black Leopard, Red Wolf is one of those novels that keeps you on edge and by the end leaves you breathless. Twists and turns and intense moments of love and hate kept me turning the pages. Marlon James knows how to build fantastically beautiful worlds in which to place his characters. And his characters are exactly what you hope for--beautifully flawed and easy to love or hate. Black Leopard, Red Wolf is perfect for the Fantasy reader in for a long, adventurous story.
