Summer of Southern Women: The Awakening

M: Welcome back to the CHB Summer Book Club! Hopefully you are following along with #CHBSummer on our various social media (links below). Victoria and I are super excited to be highlighting southern women this summer and we wanted to kick it off with Kate Chopin's The Awakening. There has been a lot written about The Awakening (and indeed all of the books we are reading this summer have mountains of criticism behind them) and so my first question to you is, do you read introductory materials before beginning a classic novel or do you prefer to dive right in and make your own way?

Rereading Paper Towns by John Green

So the Paper Towns film comes out next month, and, as I did with The Fault in Our Stars when it came out last summer, I’ve been planning to reread Paper Towns before going to see it in theaters. My goal was to wait until we were a bit closer to the movie’s release, but that didn’t work out. I’ve been at a loss recently for what to read (I’m still having a book hangover from finishing the first two books in Samantha Shannon’s Bone Season series), and I just wanted something kind of fun and hopeful.

A Read & Review Club Review: I Text Dead People by Rose Cooper

The CHB Read & Review Club is for educators and students who enjoy reading and would like to share the joy of reading with others through reviewing and recommending books. As a bookshop, we often receive special review copies of books in advance of their release dates so that we can review them. However, since we can only read so many books and we value the thoughts and opinions of other readers, CHB is recruiting educators and students to read and review advance reader copies (or arcs) of books that we receive, and we'll post their reviews on the Cavalier House Books website via the Read & Review Club Blog!
