Sophie Reviews Circe

Madeline Miller’s Circe was a fantastic way to end a rather difficult year for me. I have to say that when I first opened the cover and began to read, I had no idea I would find myself completely immersed. Ancient gods and goddesses come to life in this book. Heroes are no longer blurry outlines in old stories but living, breathing characters rich in color. Circe was a name I’ll admit I had forgotten. She was no more to me than a witch who turned men into pigs and helped Odysseus on his journey home.

The Life and Times of Mary Higgins Clark

For women’s history month I would like to shine the spotlight on beloved
author, Mary Higgins Clark. Mary Higgins Clark was born on Christmas Eve
in 1927. Though she is best know as a novelist, she has held many
exciting job positions. She has been a model, an actress, a flight
attendant, a switchboard operator, a secretary, and she wrote for a radio
show as well. Higgins Clark has said she got some of her story ideas from
her time as a switchboard operator. She even listened in on Tennessee

Women in Writing

For Women’s History Month, I considered highlighting a single author whose work I’ve come to love. However, I decided that I wanted to bring up a topic that is of great importance to me and to women around the world. I want talk about women in writing instead.

Calling All Nerds!

If you’re anything like me, you’re a hardcore science fiction nerd! We’re the ones who grew up with Star Trek on our television sets and Star Wars at the movies. We’ve read books about alien invasions, time travel, and robot takeovers. We had ray guns, or at least imagined we did, and fought the evil forces of the universe in our backyards. Some of the most inspiring books are hard to find these days. Most of them have been forgotten, left to collect dust. But you can find some of those jewels here! We have vintage works from Science Fiction masters like Isaac Asimov, Arthur C.
