Happy St. Patrick's Day!

About a month after Mardi Gras, as the Calendar of Saints turns, we alight upon the feast day of St. Patrick where upon we are free to imbibe all of the green beer we can get our hands on (and unsurprisingly it is quite a lot). St. Patrick’s feast day falls on March 17th, his death date, and commemorates both St. Patrick himself and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. The day also stands to celebrate Irish culture and heritage in general. Many parades and festivals are held and Lenten sacrifices are lifted for the day (thus the popularity of green beer – drinking is banned during Lent).

Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler

What could be a better use of our Mardi Gras holiday than lying around eating King Cake and reading books about Louisiana life and culture? We've got to get all of our indulgences and debaucheries out before the start of the Lenten season (but who are we kidding, none of us are giving up our luxurious reading habits!).

Here's a list of great books about Mardi Gras, Louisiana, New Orleans and everything in between.

Happy New Year!

The end of the year is always a good time for reflection on this year's ups and downs and preparation for what is coming next in the new year. We often start the new year with big plans, plans designed to help us become better people, whether that is through diet, exercise, or other such resolutions. It's a time of hope for the future and what joys it might bring, a time to start over and try again, that the dawn of the new year might bring new and better prospects to our lives.
