The CHB Read & Review Club is for educators and students who enjoy reading and would like to share the joy of reading with others through reviewing and recommending books. As a bookshop, we often receive special review copies of books in advance of their release dates so that we can review them. However, since we can only read so many books and we value the thoughts and opinions of other readers, CHB is recruiting educators and students to read and review advance reader copies (or arcs) of books that we receive, and we'll post their reviews on the Cavalier House Books website via the Read & Review Club Blog!
Samantha B. (16) is a Read & Review Club member, and she has written a review of Becca Fitzpatrick's new book, Dangerous Lies!
From the publisher's marketing: "Stella Gordon's life is a lie. She does not belong in Thunder Basin, Nebraska. As the star witness in a murder trial against a drug dealer, Stella is now in the Witness Protection Program. The small town locals can never know who she really is. Not even Chet Falconer, the one boy who makes her want to reveal her true self. She knows that telling the truth will only bring violence to this safe haven. Despite how hard Stella tries to stay under the radar, danger is fast-approaching. Criminals have a way of getting rid of witnesses, and Stella may have made the one mistake that could lead the cold-blooded men hunting for her right to her doorstep."
Check out what Samantha has to say about the book:
Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick is unbelievable; her work takes you to a whole new level. Dangerous Lies is the best book I have read in a while! The story takes hold of you and does not ever let you go. Fitzpatrick is by far my favorite author and I always highly anticipate the releases of her new books. Overall her writing shows much promise, and while she may be my favorite author, she still has a lot to work on. Her character development is not all that good and needs some work, but the book still manages to come together in the end. The book is entertaining and certainly gave her last book Black Ice a run for its money. I could not put the book down; it grabbed hold of me on the first page and did not let me go until the book was through. Dangerous Lies is the best YA contemporary mystery/thriller I have read. I did not really care for the rural Nebraska setting very much, but I guess if you are going to put the main character in Witness Protection that is the best setting to put them in. All-in-all I loved this book and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Thanks to Samantha for her review!
