The CHB Read & Review Club is for educators and students who enjoy reading and would like to share the joy of reading with others through reviewing and recommending books. As a bookshop, we often receive special review copies of books in advance of their release dates so that we can review them. However, since we can only read so many books and we value the thoughts and opinions of other readers, CHB is recruiting educators and students to read and review advance reader copies (or arcs) of books that we receive, and we'll post their reviews on the Cavalier House Books website via the Read & Review Club Blog!
Emily R. (12) is a Read & Review Club member, and she has written a review of Toni Gallagher's new book, Twist My Charm: The Popularity Spell! Check out what she has to say about the book:
I found Twist My Charm: The Popularity Spell by Toni Gallagher to be an interesting book. It all starts when Cleo, the main character, gets a voodoo doll for her birthday. Cleo and her friend Samantha start making small wishes, like wishing for surprise pizza, but then the magic gets a little out of hand. They wish for popularity and accidentally get the most popular girl in school in big trouble. It sounded very interesting to me and I was not disappointed. The characters all felt very real; in fact this whole story felt very real to me. I loved the plot and all of the little things that happened. This book isn’t all fun and happy, though; it does have its heavier subjects. The author does do an amazing job of balancing the serious and funny parts, however, and I thought all of the characters and some of the situations were hilarious. I really enjoyed all of the unique characters in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I think that children really will, too. I know that I will be looking out for the next book in this series and other books by Toni Gallagher!
Thanks to Emily for her review!
